Old Gillitts

The design of the Old Gillitts Railway Residence and AirBnB seamlessly combines Victorian sophistication with local Vernacular influences. By incorporating elements from the original Old Gillitts architecture, the design integrates red face brick, rattan, plaster, wood, thatch, and bamboo, creating a unique fusion of textures and materials. The space also embraces the cultural richness of the area by referencing Zulu and Indian design elements, enhancing its historical character. The thoughtful inclusion of outdoor furnishings and the natural surroundings fosters a serene environment, offering guests an immersive experience that celebrates South Africa’s diverse architectural and cultural heritage.
